First, my own wandering, nearby Pondicherry in the south of India. I had intentionally chosen not to prepare my stay. I knew what I did not want to photograph : folklore, over photogenic faces, reporting or even a story. At a turning point in my work as a photographer, I challenged myself to leave it to chance to give sense to the pictures I would take. Wandering in the search for sense.
But when I arrived, everything felt complicated and heavy : the heat, the humidity, … Places did not inspire me. Light was harsh. But at dawn and at sunset, walking or riding in the back of my brother’s motorcycle, in motion, I took pictures of people and animals wandering themselves in the dark. Intriguing atmospheres at the border of a disordered city.
